The Burning Crusade

Light at the end of the o2 support tunnel

o2 (of o2.co.uk fame) has to be, in my experience, one of the worst companies I have ever had the misfortune to have to deal with.

I am just coming to the end of a long battle with their idiotic customer service departments and proceedures regarding a refund for a phone I was sent in error and promptly returned. As reward for me promptly returning this phone in accordance with their proceedures they decided to charge me twice for the phone. I have spent nearly a month trying to get a refund for these charges. Each time I am promised it will be resolved and each time it fails to be resolved.

I am still at this time awaiting the final part of the refund but have been assured today, by John in team 109, that the bank credit was made to my account today and so I should see this in my account any day now.

Finally the end is in sight. Or is it?

Get these bugs off my desk

More and more the focus of support departments and software maintainers seems to be how to reduce their call count count rather than actually find the correct solution to the problem being reported.

Few seem interested in the right solution these days, the only thing that matters is their call counts. Performance should not be measured in the number of open calls, or the number of calls closed. Performance should be measured based on the number of solutions provided.

WONTFIX and NOTABUG are too often used to mean OFFMYDESK

www.error-code.org.uk

Well, its over 7 months since I created this website and traffic is somehow finding its way to the site which is nice.

The idea behind the site was to provide a vaguely useful reference site, whilst generating some revenue from the placement of google ads in order to try and raise enough funds to pay for the server hosting of this and my other little noddy web site/server projects.

Starting from an average of 30 hits per day in June (raising a total of $0.00), in December this climbed to over 680 hits per day and it raised over $28.

I dont think I can retire based on this revenue but $30/m is 1/2 way to the $60/m I need to break even. Fortunatly however I have another website that is currently generating around $30/m also so I am close to breaking even.

The best thing since sliced bread

I have been using gmail now for about 4 months and I have come to the conclusion that it is the best thing since sliced bread.

I still have my email delivered to both my gmail account and my old ISP email account the idea being that I could fall back on the old system if gmail was not cutting it.

However since starting with gmail (after a couple of days of "huh, this is weird" and "ugh, dont like that" and some "how can I make it do") it started to really grow on me. I am now 4 months down the line and I havn't looked back and I would not give it up for love nor money.

The only time I go to my old email client now is to review some saved message I received before I started using email.

Life, the Universe and Everything

What am I doing here?

Good question. I was reading up on google sitemaps, trying to work out why my site, which has been publishing sitemaps to google for a week now, is not yet being crawled. I found myself on someones blog site, and of course the natural progression from that was to follow the "create your own blog" link, wouldn't everyone?

I like this font though, it's called Georgia.

I've been listening to Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy on Radio 4 FM hence the title of this post. I must listen to last weeks episode which I missed.
